Trump Threatens Countries Supporting BRICS’ “Anti-American Policies”
"There will be no exceptions to this policy," Trump emphasized in a post on his Truth Social platform.
In a subsequent message, he revealed that US tariff notifications and/or agreements with various nations worldwide "will be delivered starting 12:00 P.M. (Eastern) (1600GMT), Monday, July 7th."
Earlier this year, in late January, Trump firmly stated, “there is no chance that BRICS (countries) will replace the US dollar in international trade, or anywhere else.”
He further demanded, "We are going to require a commitment from these seemingly hostile Countries that they will neither create a new BRICS Currency, nor back any other Currency to replace the mighty U.S. Dollar or, they will face 100% Tariffs."
The BRICS alliance has been exploring alternatives to the dollar in recent years, with these discussions gaining momentum after the US imposed sanctions on Russia in 2022 following the onset of its “special military operation” in Ukraine.
Trump’s remarks came as leaders and officials from BRICS convened in Rio de Janeiro for the 17th annual summit of the group.
