Russia Says BRICS Group “Never Will Be” Against Other Nations
As the BRICS summit kicked off Sunday in Rio de Janeiro, Trump issued a warning that any nation aligning with the bloc’s anti-American policies would incur an additional 10% tariff. He declared on Truth Social that “there will be no exceptions to this policy.”
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov acknowledged awareness of Trump’s remarks during a press briefing.
When asked about the situation, Peskov described BRICS as a coalition of countries united by “common approaches and a common worldview of how to cooperate based on their own interests.”
He added, “This interaction within BRICS has never been and will never be directed against third countries.”
The 17th BRICS summit, spanning two days, commenced Sunday with Russia’s delegation led by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
BRICS initially comprised five nations: Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.
Since last year, the alliance has broadened to include Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Indonesia as full members.
