Raft Overturn Kills Two in Vietnam

(MENAFN) Two people lost their lives after a raft carrying 17 passengers capsized in northern Vietnam’s Quang Ninh province amid fierce winds triggered by a sudden whirlwind, a local outlet reported Monday.

The incident occurred around 6:15 p.m. on Sunday as the wooden raft, operated by a single individual, was en route to a clam farming zone when it overturned due to unexpected strong gusts, according to the report.

Authorities confirmed that 16 individuals were rescued from the water, while two passengers who had gone missing were found dead by Monday morning.

The National Center for Hydrometeorological Forecasting linked the stormy conditions to an approaching tropical depression entering the Beibu Gulf, which brought wind speeds of up to 61 kilometers per hour along with torrential rainfall across northern and north-central Vietnam.
