Pakistan Reports Two More Polio Cases
The new infections were identified in Kohistan District of northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Badin District in southern Sindh, according to the Regional Reference Laboratory for Polio Eradication at the National Institute of Health in Islamabad.
Of the total cases reported in 2025, KP accounts for 13, Sindh has logged six, while eastern Punjab and the northern Gilgit-Baltistan region have each recorded a single case.
In response, authorities have scheduled a sub-national anti-polio campaign from September 1 to 7, aiming to immunize more than 28 million children under five across 99 districts. Officials are urging parents to ensure their children receive multiple doses of the oral vaccine to guard against the highly contagious and incurable disease.
Pakistan, alongside neighboring Afghanistan, remains one of only two countries where wild poliovirus continues to be endemic.
