Milanovic Stands Against Sending Troops to Ukraine
(MENAFN) On Monday, Croatian President Zoran Milanovic once again emphasized that his nation will not dispatch military personnel to Ukraine.
Using social media to express his stance, he stated, "I have received a mandate from the Croatian people to uphold this position, and therefore I repeat that Croatian soldiers will not participate in other countries’ wars."
His declaration followed a virtual assembly involving the leaders of the Coalition of the Willing.
Milanovic took aim at Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic for engaging in these talks, stressing that Croatia is "bound only" by its commitments within the European Union and NATO frameworks.
According to Milanovic, "Croatia has no obligations stemming from political or military agreements among the leaders of the so-called Coalition of the Willing, and the Government of the Republic of Croatia is not authorized by anyone to push Croatia into any new coalitions that could involve the participation of Croatian soldiers in the war in Ukraine."
The Coalition of the Willing conference was jointly chaired by French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also in attendance.
The group reiterated their backing for Ukraine and praised Zelenskyy's "desire" for a fair and enduring peace, ahead of his upcoming discussion with US President Trump in Washington, DC.
