Canada Announces Closure of Riyadh Embassy Amid Tensions
"Due to the current security situation, the Embassy of Canada in Riyadh is closed today," the embassy said in a post on X, the US social media platform. "Please note that all in-person appointments are canceled through Friday, March 6."
The closure arrives amid a rapidly escalating regional crisis triggered by the joint US-Israeli military campaign against Iran, which launched Saturday and has since claimed the lives of several senior Iranian officials — most notably Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Tehran has answered the offensive with retaliatory drone and missile strikes directed at Israel and Gulf nations hosting US military installations, sending shockwaves across the region and prompting diplomatic missions to reassess their security posture.
Canada has yet to issue further guidance on when normal embassy operations in Riyadh will resume.
