Turkish Leader, NATO Chief Discuss Regional Tensions
According to the Turkish Communications Ministry, Erdogan said Türkiye is closely monitoring the situation and emphasized that diplomacy is crucial for achieving lasting peace. He also noted that preparations for the NATO Leaders Summit in Ankara this July are ongoing and that Türkiye aims to host the event in a manner befitting its significance.
Rutte stated that NATO will continue to ensure the security of its allies with a comprehensive, 360-degree approach.
The phone call comes after the US and Israel launched a major offensive against Iran on Saturday, killing several senior Iranian figures, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. In retaliation, Iran has carried out drone and missile strikes targeting Israel and other regional sites hosting US military assets, further escalating tensions across the Middle East.
