Zelenskyy Pushes EU to Release Major Loan Package for Ukraine

(MENAFN) Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a series of phone calls on Tuesday with senior European Union officials to push for the release of a major financial support package for Kyiv worth €90 billion (about $106 billion).

After speaking with European Council President António Costa, Zelenskyy said on the social media platform X that Ukraine had fulfilled all required conditions set by the EU in relation to the funding.

He also said Costa referenced Ukraine’s security cooperation agreements with countries in the Middle East and the Gulf, and highlighted Kyiv’s drone-related offerings to international partners, which he described as highly distinctive. Zelenskyy added that Ukraine has already begun cooperation with several European states and expects further in-person discussions soon, stressing the importance of continued European unity.

In a separate call, Zelenskyy spoke with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, where he again emphasized the importance of unblocking the financial package, arguing that it would strengthen both Ukraine and Europe.

He said all necessary steps from Ukraine’s side had been completed and expressed hope that disbursements would begin soon, noting that the conversation also covered broader European policy issues.
