Container Ship Damaged in Shooting Incident Near Oman

(MENAFN) According to reports, a commercial container ship sustained significant damage after coming under fire near the coast of Oman, in an incident involving a nearby gunboat.

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) stated that it received a report of the incident occurring approximately 15 nautical miles northeast of Oman.

The vessel’s captain reported that the ship was approached by a gunboat believed to be linked to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). According to the account, no prior radio warning was issued before the gunboat opened fire.

Reports indicate that the gunfire caused heavy damage to the ship’s bridge. However, no fires or environmental contamination were reported, and all crew members were confirmed safe.

Authorities continue to monitor maritime security conditions in the area following the incident.
