Two Commercial Vessels Targeted Near Strait of Hormuz in Different Incidents

(MENAFN) According to reports, a cargo ship came under fire near the Iranian coastline in the Strait of Hormuz, marking the second similar maritime incident within just a few hours.

The UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) stated that the captain of an outbound cargo vessel reported being “having been fired upon” around 8 nautical miles west of Iran’s coast at 0638 GMT. Following the attack, the ship was brought to a halt, although authorities confirmed that all crew members were safe and there was “no reported damage to the vessel.”

In an earlier alert issued the same day, UKMTO said it had received a separate report at 0355 GMT involving another commercial vessel located approximately 15 nautical miles northeast of Oman. That incident also involved a maritime security situation, though further details were not immediately provided.

The agency noted that both events occurred in close proximity to each other in the strategically significant waters near the Strait of Hormuz, a key shipping route for global energy transport.
