Iran Says It Defused Unexploded US-Made Bombs in Western Region
According to Iranian state media, the bombs were discovered and rendered safe in Lorestan province. Officials said the devices were identified as MK-84 bombs, each weighing around 2,000 pounds (900 kg) and capable of causing deep craters upon detonation.
The IRGC statement was carried by state-run outlets, which reported that the explosives were safely defused by specialized teams.
The development comes amid heightened regional tensions following recent military escalations involving the United States and Israel against Iran. In response to earlier strikes, Iran launched retaliatory attacks targeting Israel and other regional locations where US forces are present, according to reports.
Hostilities have been temporarily paused following a ceasefire announced earlier this month, brokered with regional mediation efforts, which is expected to expire in the coming days.
