Trump Says He Might Consider Deploying Troops to Iran If Necessary
In remarks to a media outlet, Trump said, "I don't have the yips with respect to boots on the ground — like every president says, 'There will be no boots on the ground.' I don't say it," adding that such a move would be considered "if they were necessary."
In separate comments to another broadcaster, he described the ongoing offensive as progressing positively but cautioned that more intense phases were ahead. "We haven't even started hitting them hard. The big wave hasn't even happened. The big one is coming soon," he said.
Trump also expressed surprise at Iran’s response, particularly strikes directed at several Arab states — Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates — many of which host US military assets. "We told them, 'We've got this,' and now they want to fight," he claimed. "They were going to be very little involved and now they insist on being involved.”
The president updated his earlier casualty assessment, revising the number of Iranian leaders killed from 48 to 49. Beyond military operations, he said Washington was also attempting to support Iranian civilians, urging them to remain indoors for their protection. A day earlier, Trump had called on Iranians to rise up and "seize this moment ... and take back your country."
These statements came as the joint US-Israeli strikes, which began Saturday, continued. The offensive reportedly resulted in the deaths of several high-ranking Iranian officials, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. In response, Tehran launched missile and drone attacks targeting multiple Gulf states, primarily focusing on US military installations.
Since the start of the campaign, four American service members have been killed and 18 others seriously injured, according to official updates and reports, with US authorities anticipating additional casualties as operations continue.
